Today, I’m celebrating reaching 100 Instagram followers!! I know that when life gets busy, it’s easy to make excuses about why you shouldn’t work on the things you are passionate about just because they don’t have tangible benefits. BUT that probably means you actually need it more than ever. Life can get super heavy when you’re not working on those things that bring you extra happiness.

Black and Gold

This week on Instagram, I featured four outfits with black and gold elements. I don’t feel like this was my best week for happy, clear photos but I guess that’s one of the downsides to phone cameras. The sun has to be shining just bright etc. Even though I love accosting people in supermarkets, it’s not always the most ideal of conditions for photographs. (Or maybe it’s just hard to make the color black look “happy”?? idk.)  Continue reading

Out & About: Abaya Love

Abaya: (noun) The abaya “cloak”, sometimes also called an aba, is a simple, loose over-garment, essentially a robe-like dress, worn by some women in parts of the Muslim world including in North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Traditional abayat are black and may be either a large square of fabric draped from the shoulders or head or a long caftan. The abaya covers the whole body except the face, feet, and hands.

I love seeing my friends in Abayas.[1]

I think it’s the details that get me. Seeing things like gold embroidery woven into someone’s everyday style is something I didn’t get a lot of while I was away from Nigeria. I’ve come home to find everyone looking like a Queen.

Out and About: Guys in Natives

Y’all, I swear, it’s a hustle to find African men in natives on social media. Everywhere you turn, this ankara page or that African fashion page is destroying your life with approximately 10,000 pictures of women rocking their trads daily. But where are the men? Maybe I don’t know the proper search terms to enter but biko, is Uti Nwachukwu the only person you people know? [1]

Anyway, I would like to add to the noise [2] and post pics of a couple of dudes in their native wear.

Out and About: A Study in Pink

(Yes, I’m a Sherlock fan)

Our first “Out and About” post y’all! So exciting : )

As I drift through Abuja, I always get distracted by people’s sense of style. Usually, I stop them since they have to know, “I’m obsessed with your dress.” But because that level of human intensity wasn’t challenging enough for me, I decided to turn it up a notch.

Hello man who has never met me before in his entire life. Would you mind standing still against this wall while I take a picture of your shirt?

You know, people are surprisingly receptive to being accosted for pictures of their outfits. Maybe it’s because I said, “Please.” [1]
